Julie-Karel (JK) Elkin is a veteran in the legal industry with a proven track record of providing practical legal counsel to small and mid-size businesses and helping healthcare professionals and practice managers secure their office operations including regulatory compliance with HIPAA and HITECH.
JK takes pride in building true partnerships with her clients, providing them with strategic direction, education, and solutions. She went to law school so you don’t have to! JK strives to be someone her clients can entrust to fight their battles as well as to provide sound advice when they may not see the entire issue. The right thing to do, she believes, is to provide an honest, thoughtful assessment in all situations.
She is a problem-solver, providing her clients with viable solutions:
• JK has resolved complex employment matters for her clients without disrupting the workforce.
• She has identified potential problems not recognized by others and helped her clients avoid impending disasters with meaningful, reasonable solutions.
• She makes sure her clients are protected and that they understand their rights and responsibilities in the conduct of their businesses and practices.
JK has landed coverage in Nashville Medical News, Paradigm Magazine, ALDA IoT for CLE, MGMA Mips and Macra, Tech Talks HIPAA, and is a frequent speaker at the Southeast Business Forum. She talks and trains frequently on Compliance, GDPR, Cybersecurity, Hostile Work Environment and more.
JK earned her J.D. degree from the Nashville School of Law in 1995, where she graduated with honors and was a member of the Law Honor Council. She has been a Tennessee Rule 31 Listed Mediator and received HIPAA certification training.
Following law school, JK practiced at Spicer Rudstrom and was named partner in 2001. She put her law practice on-hold in 2007 and took over her family business where she learned how handy it was to have a law degree. After selling the business she returned to Spicer in 2017 and wants to put the full measure of her experience to work for you, the small business person.
In addition to her passion for the law, JK is a trained ballroom dancer and has participated in several shows and competitions throughout the years. She is involved with her three children’s school and extracurricular activities and has participated with Feed America First, Davis House, Read2Me, and Second Harvest.
